Hello Friends,

2023 is ready to bid us goodbye in a few days. I believe all of you would have achieved or at least given a hard push towards the set goals for the year. Now let me ask you on your reading journey this year. Was it fulfilling? Have you been able to acquire some much needed knowledge through reading this year? What are the new genres that you added to your reading list this year or even what's the plan for 2024? I am sure you must have so much to share in terms of your journey in the land of knowledge. You can share your experience in the comments section. Talking about my reading experience it was a great  one as it gave me a sense of accomplishment. I could broaden my horizon by stepping into the world of fiction. I must say fictions are going to be a big part of my reading journey in the coming days too. Apart from that I could extend my tally in startup stories, learnt a few more tricks  in terms of digital marketing as well as financial investments and more importantly came across some of the nice reads on self development.  My love for audiobooks continued this year too. Indulging in various categories gave a boost to my overall book count for the year too. But again the focus was always on the quality rather than quantity.

My plan for the coming year is already set as far as reading is concerned. I am sure the book lovers amongst you  would have already listed out your favourite books for 2024 too. Before we jump into the  celebrations of a prosperous upcoming year here's my list of favorite reads from 2023.

Devil's Advocate: The Untold Story By Karan Thapar

Story of one of the celebrated personalities from the world of media & journalism. This story is as bold & brave like any of Karan's interviews. He has shared all sort of experiences be it good ones or bitter ones starting from his  days as a student till the golden period of his professional career. Some of the instances shared are really noteworthy. The book is a real reflection of a journalist's journey dealing with stalwarts across fields. One of the best autobiographies I have come across in recent times where every experience shared seems to be coming straight from the author's heart without any sugarcoating. Those who are fans of  no-holds-barred biographies would love this one.

Let's Talk Mutual Funds By Monika Halan

One of the best books that will enrich your knowledge in the world of investing. Like her previous book Let's talk money this one is also loaded with tons of myth breaking facts with respect to one of the most talked about financial products. Various facts related to mutual fund regulations along with some simple strategies to grow  your wealth in the world of mutual funds make it an insightful read. Best part of the book is despite the author being a trustworthy name in the world of finance she hasn't tried to impose upon her thought process on the readers. After all everybody's financial journey is different and so as their choices. This book can definitely be a guide towards succeeding in that journey.

The Snowball: Warren Buffet And The Business Of Life By Alice Schroeder

Warren Buffett is  a name that needs no introduction. Stock market enthusiasts try to follow his footsteps too. Plenty of content is available on him & his investment philosophy in market. Yet I felt this is one such book which exhibits various sides of his life & investment philosophy like none else. All his experiences starting from his childhood days till  becoming a pro in his business has been shared in depth. On a hindsight the book might seem a bit lengthy but again those detailed explanations of all the noteworthy investments is the major differentiating factor. Buffet's journey is like an ocean of knowledge and this book is a great attempt to help you dive deep into that ocean.

The Freedom Manifesto By Karan Bajaj

One of the interesting reads of the year for me. I won't say I completely agree with all the theories  explained in the book but there is always something to learn from others' journey. How multiple  sabbaticals led Karan Bajaj, founder of WhiteHat jr to a new world of wisdom and helped him chasing his inner calling is an interesting read indeed. I personally won't consider this as yet another startup story as it has lot more than that. The book is bound to create a different perspective towards your own life goals and achievements. If you want to understand how to balance the daily hustles of a corporate life and your personal aspirations, the freedom manifesto can be a good choice.

The Big Bull Of Dalal Street By Neil Borate, Aprajita Sharma & Aditya Kondawar

Yet another story of a stalwart from the world of stock market investing. When we talk about how Warren Buffet  has inspired so many people to make their fortunes in the world of stocks, we should also mention the influence that Rakesh Jhunjhunwala had on the mindset of our countrymen on the same topic. Rakesh's example makes Indians believe that stock market is not all that bad. The big bull of dalal street by three finance enthusiasts is an ode to the life & wealth building mindset of this Indian great. The book depicts various aspects of Rakesh's thought process in terms of risk taking, vision for future & minimizing loss when it comes to stock market investment. Doesn't matter if you are a beginner or a pro in the craft of stock market investing, this book should be a delightful read in either case. Click here for my detailed review of the book.
