The Big Bull With A Big Heart

Hello Friends,

How knowledgeable are you on  stock market? Which is the one name that comes to your mind when it comes to stock market? Warren Buffett is considered as the stock market legend as mostly people whether new to stock market or a  veteran try to follow his footsteps to build substantial growth. It is heartening to see  one Indian who can very well be recognized as the pioneer  when it comes to stock market investing . A street smart individual who accumulated substantial growth  through stock market investing with an approach which is simple yet powerful. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala who is famously considered as Warren Buffett of India has created his own legacy when it comes to building wealth through stock market investing. It was a delight to find a recently published book on his career and business principles considering there hasn't been much written on his greatness as compared to Buffet or any other well known investor. In our book review segment  we will discuss why this small masterpiece is such a great read to dive deep into the mind of one of the greatest business icons.

The Big Bull Of Dalal Street is a tribute to one of the modern day geniuses who left us last year. It's not just another biography which depicts his life journey  in a sequential manner,  rather a well crafted work of his business principles, work ethics and thought process. The first aspect I liked about the book was its simplicity be it in the content or the overall structure. There is not much mention of  complicated business jargons or calculation which is a commonality when talking about stock market. That's what makes it an affordable read even for a beginner who wants to learn about the life of a legend whose success has been lot bigger than his challenges. The book has been co authored by Neil Borate, Aprajita Sharma & Aditya Kondawar who belong to journalism (Click here for authors' profile & interview).

So what does the book contain? Entire content has been categorized into three sections including his early years as a newcomer to the stock market, his biggest success & failures and finally the lessons for a lifetime. Most of the chapters delve into his smart thinking & aggressive intent as an investor. His story is a great example of how think big attitude can take you to greater success irrespective of your background. His story makes us think if a middle class boy like him can achieve so much in a field which is a mystery to lot of us till date then what is stopping us from achieving our dreams?

Best part of the book contains in the in depth analysis of the investments which did prove as failures in his career. Afterall we learn more from our failures than success. Those stories where his instinct or strategies didn't bring fruitful results tell us how at times even efforts put with the right intent can  be futile. Throughout the book multiple quotes by his colleagues and friends can be found talking about his helpful nature, shrewd business sense and humility as a person. Not to forget that apart from being a successful business person he was a great human being that makes him memorable among his friends and well wishers.

One more aspect of Rakesh's thought process that comes out strong through this book is his advocacy for long term investment. Even though it can be said that instinct has played a major role in his investment journey at the same time he hasn't been ignorant of relevant research report or data pertaining to any investment. He was an optimist who  always  believed in India's long term growth. The book shows how learning from setbacks faced over the years has made him so successful in a field that still is not considered as  a reliable source for building wealth for middle class. I must say despite not having any direct interaction with Jhunjhunwala  the authors have done a great job in collating all the valuable insights about Rakesh that make him a master of his craft. This book can very well be your long term companion if you want to learn the art of stock market investing and that also from one of the greats. What are you waiting for then? Go and grab a copy.
