Hello Friends,
I am sure most of you must be reading quite a few books, journals or articles on leadership on a regular basis. That instant motivation generated from such stories is amazing. Isn't it?? Today I am going to talk about one such masterclass on leadership authored by a veteran storyteller. Let's start then. Those who have already read this book(I am sure most of you have) can surely recommend this to their friends & colleagues☺
"The Secret Of Leadership" by Prakash Iyer is one of the most loved books on leadership which throws light on important aspects of leadership using anecdotes from various spheres of life. Prakash Iyer is one of the prominent authors and a motivational speaker who loves to draw references from everyday life as well as his professional experience which spans about more than twenty five years in various corporate houses. Foreword for this book has been written by legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid.
The book describes four different aspects of leadership which are - The Leader Within which talks about characteristic traits of a leader.
- The leader's Mindset which talks about how leaders think.
- The Leader's Way which talks about how leaders operate to achieve extraordinary results.
- Leading Teams which talks about how leaders inculcate strong belief in their team members to achieve individual goals.
All the four aspects have been narrated with the help of around sixty different stories from various fields. The author being a cricket enthusiast, has referred few of the stories from the lives of cricketing legends to showcase their way of leadership. At the end of every chapter there is a brief summary or learnings from the chapter which is a common feature in Prakash Iyer's books(The other two books being 'The Habit Of Winning' & 'You Too Can'). Stories have been told in extremely simple language with an underlying lesson in each of it. It's fascinating to see how the author relates the stories taken from different geographies & arenas to illustrate the particular leadership trait he is talking about. One might say that some of the leadership traits mentioned in the book are very common which is true in some sense. But not to forget that often we don't mind going through a repeated concept expressed in a different manner.
Stories used in the book make the already known principles lot more interesting to read. At the same time some of the stories may make the reader feel that the lesson could have been something different from the mentioned one. I personally felt it is also important to focus on the four basic aspects mentioned as a whole. Young leaders who want to climb up the corporate ladder would definitely find this book worth reading. This book can be a very good gift from senior leaders to their teammates as well. I am sure this book can definitely ignite the inner fire within a leader & who knows the next story can be about you & your leadership style. Go grab a copy if you haven't till now.
