Business Wizards Under One Roof

Mostly we prefer to pursue our education from top most colleges or universities considering that can pave the way for a better future for us. The institutions we become a part of play a big role in shaping our career. India is known for many prestigious educational institutions offering varied streams of education including medical, engineering, science, management and many more. Most of these institutions work towards a holistic growth of their students which helps them to achieve greater heights in life. In our today's book review we are going to talk about one such premier institution which has produced many stalwarts of different industries over the years. Let's start then.

Birla Institute of Technology and Science, famously known as BITS is one of the premier institutions of India which focuses on higher education predominantly engineering & science domain. Over the years many of its alumni have gone on to achieve substantial success in different fields. Two of its alumni named Gaurav Mandlecha & Durjai Sethi (Click here for detailed author interview along with their profiles) have come up with a nice concept of publishing a brief accumulation of achievements of 25 BITS wizards in the form of a book named The Pilani Pioneers.

Concept of the book is pretty simple. It showcases the journeys of 25 BITS graduates(Mostly from Pilani) in the business world. Some of them are quite familiar names whereas few are not so familiar. But the common factor amongst them is that all of them had an incredible journey towards success after graduating from one of the premier educational institution. Best part about the book is it introduces the reader with 25 different types of business insights from different industries. Extremely simple narration without any exaggeration of the facts or figures is one of the predominant feature of the book.

Without a doubt it can be said that accumulating information from so many successful business pioneers and presenting them in a swift manner is not an easy task. It becomes even more difficult when you are a first time author. But kudos to both the authors for delivering it with perfection. Every chapter starts with a brief profile of the mentioned pioneer followed by the journey along with valuable insights and concludes with their experience with BITS. Felt the BITS experience part could have been elaborated a bit more considering it's kind of a base of the concept. Also majority of the profiles featured have completed their graduation in eighties and nineties. A slightly better mix of young and experienced generations could have been an icing on the cake as there can be a huge difference in their perspectives towards business.

Being the first time authors I am sure the duo would have faced their own share of challenges. But one thing what they have done exceptionally well is the way of representation of the stories. Instead of going for a detailed narration of their journey, more preference was given to their learning and perspective towards business and life which makes it a simple & delightful read. Selecting people from varied industries also would have been a tedious task as it's not a cakewalk to talk to people from different backgrounds unless we have some sort of knowledge on the same. Glad to see the book featured some of the women entrepreneurs as well which normally gets a miss in most of the startup stories or business books.

Overall I would recommend this as a great attempt by the author duo to show love and respect for their college and its rich heritage. Stories of hard earned success always inspire many. I am sure The Pilani Pioneers will also inspire many to take that plunge in life.
