Learn From The Sharks Of Business World

Hello Friends,

I believe most of you would have followed both the seasons of  popular business reality show Shark Tank India. What's your take on the overall content and execution of the show so far? I see the show as  one of a kind that has created a quite a buzz. In fact a show like this was needed to create that enthusiasm among  people specially the younger generation about entrepreneurship. Even though there have been  speculations & criticism about the show in social media,  the positive impact that the show has created among Indians can't be ignored. Recently the official  book on the show with the  same name   has been published which contains the  viewpoints of the sharks with regard to various aspects of business along with a glimpse of their own journey. All the inputs shared by sharks  have been nicely collated by author Prerna Lidhoo. Today I'm going to talk about the same in our book review segment.

The book is a very simple and crisp composition with a clear focus on delivering maximum insights for the readers from the stalwarts of the business world. Author Prerna, a journalist by profession who has worked with eminent publications has been great in compiling all the insights in the best possible manner. In the show audience get to witness various qualities of the sharks that make them successful in the business world like quick decision making, probing ability, understanding others' strength & weaknesses to name a few. But this book will dive deep into their own journey in the challenging world of entrepreneurship. It talks about the challenges usually early stage entrepreneurs face, expert insights on some of the important aspects of business like pivot, team building, learning and bouncing back from failures, role of a mentor, risk taking  ability to name a few.

The book also covers the investment principles of the sharks which are quite helpful as they throw light on the important aspects that an investor looks for before investing in a business. Even entrepreneurs who are planning to turn investors in future can take a clue or two from them. Last chapter of the book covers experiences of some of the participants of the show who shared the impact created by the show on their respective businesses. Great to see the story of Ganesh Balakrishnan (Cofounder of premium footwear brand Flatheads)got a place in the last chapter which caught lot of attention when the episode was aired. His story is definitely  going to inspire many budding entrepreneurs. Ganesh's story is also  an eye opener on the importance of mental health. Sharks sharing their journey with some of their best deals in the show could have been an icing on the cake.

Even though there are quite a few books available in the market which talk about dos & don'ts of starting up a business, but this book is a different kind of guide in that regard. It doesn't outline the steps to start a company or how to grow a business from scratch but the insights shared by the ones who have walked that path can be handy for someone who is entering this exciting yet challenging world of entrepreneurship. Hopefully with the help of this book and the future seasons of this popular show we would be able to write new chapters in Indian entrepreneurship.
